Frequently asked questions

Linux-specific answers about SKlauncher.

Which Linux distributions are supported?

The AppImage runs on any modern distribution with glibc 2.28 or newer. That includes Ubuntu 20.04+, Fedora 34+, Arch (rolling), Debian 11+, Linux Mint 20+, openSUSE Leap 15.3+, and more. Older distros may work but are not officially tested.

Do I need to install Java on Linux?

No. The AppImage bundles the correct Java runtime per Minecraft version. You do not need OpenJDK or Oracle Java installed on your system.

How do I integrate SKlauncher with my application menu?

Use a helper like AppImageLauncher or AppImaged, which auto-register AppImages with your desktop environment. Manual integration is also possible by creating a .desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications/.

Will SKlauncher work on Steam Deck?

Yes. The AppImage runs in Desktop Mode on SteamOS. You can add it to Steam as a non-Steam game to launch from Game Mode as well. Performance is good but you may want to manage RAM allocation per instance for heavy modpacks.

Is there a Flatpak or Snap version?

Not at the moment. The AppImage covers most use cases without additional packaging overhead. We may publish a Flatpak in the future based on community demand.
