v4.0.30

A packed one, with drag-and-drop, OptiFine, and a new modloader. Here's what changed:

New & Shiny

  • Drag and drop to install. Drop mod files or modpacks right onto the launcher to install or import them.

  • OptiFine made easy. Import OptiFine or install it standalone.

  • Legacy Fabric support. The Legacy Fabric loader is now available for older versions.

  • Server details are back. The server details page returns, freshly redesigned.

  • Custom clients in the picker. Your own added clients now show in the version pickers, grouped above the official versions.

Quality of Life

  • Better Prism imports. Prism instances come in with their custom client and the right mod loaders.

  • Heads-up on odd usernames. You get a warning if an offline username looks unusual.

  • Snappier all around. Faster startup and smoother content browsing, with lighter markdown and cached update checks.

Bug Squashing

  • The download bar no longer runs backward.

  • Deleting the open instance now takes you back to your library.

  • Installing content prefers the stable release by default.

  • Crash reports now show mclo.gs solutions alongside the problem.

  • The hardware acceleration setting applies right on startup.

v4.0.29

Here's what changed:

New & Shiny

  • Your face in Discord. Discord Rich Presence now shows your real player head for Microsoft accounts. Offline accounts are coming in a later update.

  • Pin your favorites. Pin instances to the top of your library and sidebars so they're always within reach.

  • Smarter Java settings. A refined Java page warns you when an instance is on outdated Java, and you can pick a runtime that isn't installed yet, it installs on demand.

Quality of Life

  • Safer data folder. If your custom data folder goes missing at startup, a recovery screen helps you sort it out instead of failing silently.

  • Tidier alerts and labels, and "Open Instance Folder" is now just "Open Folder".

Bug Squashing

  • Double-click an instance in the classic sidebar to launch it.

  • Disabled mods stay disabled when importing Modrinth modpacks.

  • The default instance picker shows the actual resolved version.

  • Cleaned up default memory arguments so the memory slider stays in control.

v4.0.28

A smaller one, mostly bug fixes. Here's what changed:

New & Shiny

  • Reset your app folder. A new button puts the launcher's data folder back to its default location.

Quality of Life

  • Cleaner Java settings. Tidied up the runtime picker, sorted runtimes by version, and added smooth status animations.

Bug Squashing

  • Java installs when missing. Instances missing their Java runtime now install it automatically on launch instead of failing to start.

  • Fresher skins. Refreshing your skin now pulls the newest one instead of a cached copy.

  • No duplicate installs. Content you already have from another source can't be added again by mistake.

  • Modpack downloads now stay safely inside their instance folder.

  • Low-end machines turn off transparency effects only on first launch for a smoother start.

Jun 27, 2026/beta

v4.0.27

Here's what changed:

New & Shiny

  • macOS support is here! Heads up: support for older Minecraft versions on Apple Silicon is coming in a future update.

  • Pick where your game lives. A new setting lets you move the launcher's data folder to another drive or spot. It moves over on the next restart.

  • Copy a server's IP in one click. Server list rows now have a Copy IP button.

  • Know your sources at a glance. When a list mixes Modrinth and CurseForge content, each item shows where it came from.

  • Refresh your skin. A refresh button on the skin customization page pulls your latest look.

Quality of Life

  • Tidy storage settings. Redesigned the storage location panel with smooth animations.

  • Free up space anytime. You can now clear out shared, stale game files even when you have no instances.

Bug Squashing

  • Refreshing content no longer drops mods that have updates.

  • A manual refresh always fetches the latest versions now instead of cached ones.

  • Moving your data folder is faster and safer, even across drives and tricky paths.

Jun 25, 2026/beta

v4.0.24

Here's everything that changed:

New & Shiny

  • Import from MultiMC and Prism. Bring your MultiMC and Prism packs into SKlauncher, including jar-modded ones like Better Than Adventure.

  • See what changed before you update. A new popup shows a mod version's changelog from Modrinth and CurseForge, right from the version list.

  • Line up your look, then Apply. Skin, arm type, and cape changes are staged behind an Apply button, so you can set everything up before committing.

  • Keyboard navigation. Alt + Left and Alt + Right now move back and forward through the launcher.

Quality of Life

  • Safer deletes. Removing content now asks first, and you can shift-click to skip the confirm.

  • Stable updates by default. Mod updates stick to stable releases unless you opt into alpha and beta.

  • Smarter performance mode. Low-end detection now reads CPU cores and GPU too, and performance mode is even lighter.

Bug Squashing

  • No more broken updates on shutdown. Updating while Windows shuts down no longer corrupts the install.

  • Mod version lists stay fresh instead of showing stale entries.

  • Imported instances no longer get stuck on Queued.

  • Mods deleted on disk are cleaned up from the content list.

  • Relative times never show a moment in the future anymore.

  • A clear error shows if opening an instance folder fails.

v4.0.23

Here's everything that changed:

New & Shiny

  • Share launcher logs. Send your launcher logs to mclo.gs from the About tab.

Quality of Life

  • Out of the way on launch. Fresh installs now hide the launcher when the game starts by default. You can still change this in settings.

  • Fresh social links. Updated the social buttons in the footer.

Bug Squashing

  • Discord detection. Discord recognizes Minecraft as your current game again on older versions.

  • Updating mods no longer locks up the instance.

  • A corrupted game file is caught before launch and sent to repair instead of crashing.

  • Fixed the content list sometimes showing up blank.

  • Fixed the category filter getting stuck in the content browser.

  • Fixed friends preferences not saving.

  • Windows no longer ends up with two launchers installed.

  • Offline accounts work properly again, with empty launch arguments cleaned up.

  • The crash report buttons no longer wrap mid-label.

Jun 16, 2026/beta

v4.0.21

Faster launches and a big one for skins. Here's what changed:

New & Shiny

  • Skins and capes. Microsoft accounts can now change skin and cape right inside the launcher.

  • Friends load instantly. Your friends list is cached now, so it shows up the moment you open the launcher.

Quality of Life

  • Clearer startup. A mod-scanning step now shows in the launch status, so you can see what's happening.

  • Much faster launches. The launcher remembers verified Java runtimes and already scanned mods, and skips the checks it doesn't need, so getting into the game is noticeably quicker.

Bug Squashing

  • Installed mods never get hidden in the Content tab.

  • Content scan problems are shown clearly instead of a misleading empty list.

  • The Back button stays put while a project's details load.

  • CurseForge imports with mods but no recognizable loader are turned away instead of importing broken.

  • The Quick Play bar hides when Disable Quickplay is on.

  • Fixed the friend-online popup not sitting centered.

Jun 15, 2026/beta

v4.0.20

New & Shiny

  • Performance mode. A new low-end mode trims animations and heavy effects so the launcher stays smooth on older machines.

  • Import from more launchers. A reworked, step-by-step import flow brings your instances over from the Modrinth App and the CurseForge launcher, on top of the official one.

  • Worlds tab. Manage your singleplayer worlds right inside an instance, with colored world names shown properly.

  • Live console. A new Console tab streams live game logs, and you can pop it onto the instance card or keep it as a tab, whichever you prefer.

  • Make it yours. Pick a custom accent color (solid or gradient), and reorder, hide, or set a default for the instance detail tabs.

  • Servers tab upgrades. A new filter sidebar to narrow the list, plus join and favorite buttons that show up on hover.

  • Share crash logs in a click. When the game crashes quietly, you can view the logs and share them to mclo.gs.

Quality of Life

  • Live launch status. Instances show preparing, launching, and verifying states as they start, and Quick Play gets a live ring with session time.

  • See what's running. Running instances show a running dot, and the sidebar animates smoothly when instances reorder.

  • New instances stand out. A freshly created instance gets spotlighted in your library so you can find it right away.

  • Find content faster. Filter mods and packs by category from Modrinth and CurseForge.

  • Updates with progress. Mod updates now run through the download queue with a progress bar, and mods you already have show an Installed badge.

  • Snappier, clearer downloads. Faster asset downloads, real file names instead of hashes, and lazy-loaded images for a lighter feel.

  • Tactile touches. Buttons, copy, and the favorite heart give a little feedback now, with smoother menus, modals, and transitions throughout.

Bug Squashing

  • Friendly updater error messages instead of raw gibberish.

  • Dropdowns and context menus stay on screen instead of spilling off the edge.

  • "Latest Release" and "Latest Snapshot" resolve correctly when browsing content.

  • The Java runtime is verified before running loader installers.

Privacy

  • Microsoft sign-in now shows a quick confirm with a privacy notice before you log in.

  • Session IDs are scrubbed from logs by shape now, so they can't leak even in odd formats.

Jun 6, 2026/beta

v4.0.18

More goodies, plus a big save-safety fix. Here's what changed:

New & Shiny

  • Datapacks, built in. Browse and install datapacks straight from an instance's Content tab.

Quality of Life

  • Server-side mods show up. Modrinth search now includes server-side mods.

  • Polish pass. Cleaner instance header, rounded tab bar corners, and a tidier modpack badge in light mode.

  • Linux RPM. There's now an RPM package alongside the existing Linux builds.

Bug Squashing

  • No more lost instances. Your instances are saved safely now, so a crash or power loss mid-save can't wipe them. We even keep a backup of the last good copy, just in case.

  • Datapacks stay datapacks. Modrinth datapacks are no longer mistaken for mods.

  • Buttons come back. Per-mod update and switch buttons return after you unlink a modpack.

  • Language switching in installed builds works properly now.

Jun 4, 2026/beta

v4.0.17

Another round of fixes and small upgrades. Here's what changed:

New & Shiny

  • Change any mod's version. A new picker in the Content tab lets you swap a mod to a different version without leaving the page.

Quality of Life

  • Smarter modpacks. Updating or switching versions on modpack mods now stays off unless you opt in, so linked packs don't break by accident. The Update all button is hidden for linked modpacks too.

  • Cleaner update list. Mod updates only show versions that match your instance's loader, so you won't see ones that can't work.

  • Random icon for new instances. Creating an instance pre-picks an icon, so your instances are easy to tell apart at a glance.

  • More malware coverage. The built-in scanner now recognizes more known malicious mods.

Bug Squashing

  • Memory slider sticks now. It takes charge over any memory values baked into an instance, so the amount you pick is the amount that's used.

  • Fixed the memory slider handle getting stuck at zero.

  • Quick Play on fresh instances. It now grabs any missing game files before launching instead of failing.

  • Tidied up the import profiles screen.

Jun 4, 2026/beta

v4.0.16

Fresh batch of fixes and new things. Here's what changed:

New & Shiny

  • Skins are back! Your skins show up in-game again on supported versions. (See the dev note below.)

  • Built-in malware scanning. SKlauncher now watches for known nasty mods. New "Scan now" button in Privacy settings lets you check anytime, with results shown right there.

  • Switch languages on the fly. Pick a new language and it applies instantly, no restart.

Quality of Life

  • Browse mods more naturally: click a mod's icon or name to open its details, click anywhere on the row to open it, and versions filter to the instance you opened them from.

  • Go back like a browser. Mouse back/forward buttons (4 and 5) now navigate the launcher.

  • Hide Default Instances, instantly. Takes effect right away with no restart, and now works in the modern sidebar too.

Bug Squashing

  • Default instances stay properly hidden in the modern sidebar.

Dev note: Skins

  • So many of you asked for skins that we didn't want to make you wait any longer. Our new skins feature still needs a little more time, so for now we've brought back the one from SKlauncher 3.2 to fill the gap. It works great today, but it's just a temporary fix. The new version is on the way and we'll switch over once it's ready.

Instances

  • Duplicate any instance and pick exactly which mods, packs, and worlds come along for the ride.

  • Make an instance yours by uploading your own picture as its icon.

  • New instances get friendly, readable folder names instead of random gibberish.

  • Every instance now shows in the sidebar, with a tidy scrollbar that only appears when you hover.

Importing your old launcher

  • See your profile icons while importing from the official launcher.

  • Importing is smoother all around, with clearer progress and helpful details when something goes wrong.

  • Forge and NeoForge instances now come over correctly when you import them.

Mods and content

  • Open a mod's full details straight from the Content tab.

  • A new update manager keeps your mods current, with a toggle to include modpack mods if you want.

  • Mods that need an update, or that do not fit your instance, now float to the top of the list.

  • Get a clear heads-up when a mod will not work with your current instance.

  • When picking a mod version, see which ones fit your instance and which you already have installed.

  • CurseForge mod pages now show their full, nicely formatted descriptions, images and all.

  • Links inside a mod's description open safely in your browser after a quick confirmation.

Settings

  • Your Minecraft and mod-loader versions now show at the bottom of the settings screen.

  • The Auto memory option sizes itself to your computer's RAM.

Downloads, Installs, and Repairs

  • When a download fails, you see exactly why, and you can retry just the missing files instead of starting over.

  • Interrupted downloads pick up right where they left off, and slow connections no longer get cut short.

  • Repairs are much faster. The launcher only fixes files that are actually broken.

  • Cancelling a download now feels instant.

  • Java is checked and repaired automatically when you launch, so fewer launches fail out of nowhere.

Bug fixes: getting into the game

  • Fixed fresh Fabric and Forge installs that were sometimes missing the game file itself.

  • Fabric and Quilt modpacks now install with the correct loader instead of plain vanilla.

  • Microsoft sign-in is handled gracefully when their service is down, instead of leaving you stuck.

  • Linux players without a system keyring can now stay signed in.

Bug fixes: mods, packs, and the content browser

  • CurseForge modpack resource packs now land in the right folder.

  • Fixed resource pack downloads on modded instances.

  • The content browser only shows mods and filters that make sense for your instance.

  • Browsing mods keeps your place, and the Back button takes you where you expect.

  • Imported custom clients like OptiFine now show up with the right label.

Bug fixes: updates and troubleshooting

  • Auto-updates are more dependable. No more failed updates from a release that was only half uploaded.

  • Launcher logs now have a clear home at .sklauncher/logs, which makes troubleshooting much easier.

  • Downloads now write a detailed log, noting each file as it finishes and why (freshly downloaded, already up to date, or resumed), just like the classic launcher.

Visual touch-ups

  • The download bar no longer runs backwards when several files download at once.

  • Cleaned up layout glitches with the memory slider, game cards, and sidebar icons.

  • Settings tabs share a cleaner, more consistent look.

  • The dashboard sidebar gained social links and a tidy news area.

Under the Hood

  • Lots of quiet work behind the scenes to make downloads, installs, and the Java runtime more solid.

  • You should not notice these directly, but the launcher should feel steadier and recover from hiccups far better than before.
